Film Critic Workshop
Conducted by journalist and film critic Rafael Carvalho, the activity will include theoretical classes and practical exercises focusing on reflection about films produced on the African continent and in Afro-diasporic contexts. The workshop will take place over five meetings on September 17, 18, 19, 24, and 25 at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia (MAC). There are 15 seats . Register here.
The classes will feature lectures and screenings of short films and film excerpts, always encouraging exchanges and debates. Participants will also be prepared for an immersive experience at the festival, producing film critic content about the works presented in the programme. “We will propose an exercise in writing and covering the festival while it happens and the discussions it encompasses are in progress,” emphasizes Rafael. The critiques will be published in the Revista Crítica de Cinemas Africanos, a website linked to the festival.
Short Course: Cinematic Constructions of Amílcar Cabral
The course Cinematic Constructions of Amílcar Cabral: Reflections on African Cinema and Its Narratives, facilitated by Jusciele Oliveira, takes place on September 24 - 25, at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia. The course offers an in-depth analysis of cinematic representations of Amílcar Cabral (1924-1973), a revolutionary leader of the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP). Based on Jusciele Oliveira's experiences and exchanges during her participation in the centenary celebrations of Cabral in Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau, the course explores how Cabral's figure has been portrayed and interpreted in African films and how these representations contribute to the understanding of African history and political context. There are 50 seats . Register here.
Brazil-Africa Audiovisual Encounters

This event will gather more than 50 professionals from both sides of the South Atlantic, creating a dynamic space for collaboration where knowledge and experiences can be exchanged to enhance the film industries in both regions.
The programme is structured around four key pillars: Research, Production, Distribution, and Training. Specialists from Brazil and Africa will share insights and promote partnerships, aiming to further strengthen and expand the reach of African and Brazilian cinema. Over four days, the event will feature intensive activities including debates sessions, presentations by film professionals, and a forum dedicated to discussing sustainable cooperation between Brazil and Africa in the creative industry, with a particular focus on cinema.
