Katya Aragão
Katya Aragão is a journalist, filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer from São Tomé. She graduated in Communication and Culture Sciences - Communication and Journalism from ULHT (Portugal). She was the founder and curator of TEDxSãoTomé from 2013 to 2018. In 2017, she made her directorial debut with the short film Mina Kiá and hasn't stopped since. She founded and coordinates the São Tomé Film Lab program. In 2022, she was one of the 20 filmmakers selected for the Netflix & UNESCO's African Folktales, Reimagined Competition.
São Tomé Film Lab
The São Tomé Film Lab is an initiative aimed at developing film projects. Its objective is to connect young talents from São Tomé e Principe, professionals from the audiovisual and film industry, with international experts. After a 15-day artistic residency, ten aspiring filmmakers were selected and able to develop their projects with the assistance of mentors and other filmmakers, in a constructive and collaborative environment. The project is committed to promoting the participation of a greater number of female filmmakers, in order to offer a more balanced and diversified vision of the film world.
