Marcelo Esteves
Marcelo Esteves is a screenwriter, screenwriting professor, and researcher of contemporary cinema produced in Southern Africa. He graduated in Literature from UFSM in 1996 and specialized in Screenwriting for Cinema at UNESA in 2004. He earned a Master’s degree in Theater from UNIRIO in 2007. In 2021, he obtained his PhD in Literature, Culture, and Contemporary Studies from PUC-Rio, where he defended his dissertation "Cinematographic cartographies: Johannesburg, Maputo and Harare in contemporary films produced in Southern Africa." He is the author of the screenplays for the feature films Manhã Transfigurada (nominated for the Brazilian Literature Adapted to Cinema Award, ABL) Porto Príncipe (Best Film at Cine PE 2023 and at Bogocine 2023).

2 Plátanos Produções Cinematográficas is a company created to attract and execute audiovisual projects of aesthetic and cultural relevance in the areas of fiction and non-fiction in Santa Catarina (Brazil). For over ten years, 2 Plátanos has been telling stories with political, humanistic, and social themes, either independently or in co-productions, developing original projects or contributing to the work of partners. The first productions were the short films Passagens, A Lagoa , and Almofada de Penas. The first feature film was Porto Príncipe, written by Marcelo Esteves and directed by Maria Emília de Azevedo, which premiered at the CinePE Festival 2023, where it won the awards for Best Film and Best Actor (Diderot Senat). It also stood out at Bogocine 23 (Best Film and Direction) and the 30th San Antonio Film Festival (Best Actress for Selma Egrei).
