Synopsis
Zaninka is mourning her dead son, but her selfish husband thinks only of himself and their love is fading. Mukobwa can save his father by donating a lung lobe, but he hesitates because he has discovered a dark past relating to the Rwandan genocide. Little Kadogo is learning to hate after being brutally reprimanded by his street-thief father. A lyrical film that subtly captures snippets of crippled emotions, Father’s Day looks at the role of fathers, toxic masculinity, and the patriarchal system in a country still haunted by the shadows of a national tragedy.
